Tenerife is the perfect year round sunshine destination. It is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and the most populated island in Spain, nestled in the centre of the Canaries just over 180 miles from Africa’s coastline.
The island measures over 2000 sq km and enjoys a diverse and distinctive range of landscape ranging from the subtropical vegetation and vast pine forests of the Teide National Park to the volcanic landscape of Mount Teide summit.
This is a striking piece of terrain providing fabulous walking territory amidst a unique lunar landscape, extremely popular with keen walkers. Mount Teide is from the base the third largest volcano in the world. The volcano has erupted four times in its history the last time was back in 1909. The summit of Mount Teide is over 12000 ft above sea level and is the highest point in all of Spain. The surrounding landscape of this dormant volcano acts as a natural divide between the lush green northern part of the island and the dry, sunny south of the island.
For those who like to shop and explore the historical sights then the vibrant typically Spanish city of Santa Cruz is the perfect place with its busy port life and Cruise ships, an abundance of ancient buildings and its chic boutiques and designer shops. The World Heritage site of La Laguna is also a gem of a find with its narrow cobbled streets and colourful buildings, its grand old villas and its quaint little shops. Similarly, the colonial town of La Oratava is another ‘must see’ with its flower-filled Plazas, Castilian mansions and cobblestone streets – there is so much more to this beautiful island than the neon lights of the south.
